Breadboard Residency

Breadboard resident artists are selected by invitation and receive subsidized access to NextFab Studio facilities and classes. Resident artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work at Breadboard’s EKG exhibition space upon completion of their residency. Two primary aims of this program are:  1) to offer artists who have demonstrated skills and knowledge of prototyping technology or other creative tools at NextFab Studio, and will be able to transition quickly into a working routine with minimal need of instruction. 2) to work with artists who have demonstrated clear objectives and professionalism in previous work but have little to no experience with new creative technologies.

Breadboard’s Artist in Residency Program offers artists and designers a 6-8 month residency at NextFab Studio. Resident artists are given opportunities to develop ideas and push their creative work in new directions using new creative tools. Artists benefit from the expertise of NextFab technicians and a diverse member community. Feature Artist Residency exhibits occur annually at EKG, showcasing artists’ creative output as well as documenting individual processes using new tools and technologies at NextFab. Resident artists are asked to engage the Philadelphia community through scheduled Breadboard events, artist talks, and opportunities to develop social media content during their residency.

Breadboard also creates residency opportunities for artists through organizational partnerships in which case the selection process involves an open call for proposals.
