ART-IN-SCIENCE XVIII: THE EARTH EXPOSED
March 12 – May 15, 2004
The Earth Exposed project integrates Earth science research and education around the imagery of Earth taken by astronauts and satellites. The Earth Exposed project will combine science and art to bolster understanding of Earth system science among the public and K-12 students. It will create a set of animations, web-based resources and hands-on science and art learning activities on remote-sensing and the Earth science concepts depicted in the images for use in the gallery’s school outreach program.
Note: This exhibition is in conjunction with the 100th Anniversary Meeting of the American Association of Geographers to be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center in March 2004
ART & COMMUNITY V: NEIGHBORHOOD BIKE WORKS
May 22 – June 30, 2004
Neighborhood Bike Works, a West Philadelphia non-profit youth development program, and The Esther M. Klein Art Gallery will partner in a community arts initiative. Local artists, students, and others will be invited to create ‘bike art’ with used bike parts to be exhibited at the Klein Gallery and auctioned to benefit NBW. Works will include a variety of art forms and sizes, including sculpture, woven wall hangings, furniture, mobiles, paintings, and jewelry.

ART & COMMUNITY VI: THE COLOR PROJECT
September 17 – November 5, 2004
On Color is an interdisciplinary project that will develop and coordinate a series of events surveying the artistic productions of those using color as a primary source for exploration. The series will focus on color as the umbrella under which contemporary artists, writers and performers reflect upon a wide range of topics.
JONATHAN TUCKER: PAINTED FORMS
November 12 – December 31, 2004
New York artist Jonathan Tucker explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture in his whimsical wall hangings made out of clay, plaster and construction foam. Tucker exhibits his work at Elizabeth Harris gallery in Manhattan and has been featured in reviews in Art in America and Art News Magazine. This will be his first Philadelphia exhibit. |
